WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden’s administration on Thursday announced the first cancer-focused initiative under its advanced health research agency, aiming to help doctors more easily distinguish between cancerous cells and healthy tissue during surgery and improve outcomes for patients.The administration’s Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, or ARPA-H, is launching a Precision Surgical Interventions program, seeking ideas from the public and private sectors to explore how to dramatically improve cancer outcomes in the coming decades by developing better surgical interventions to treat the disease.ARPA-H is modeled after the military-focused DARPA, which spawned the internet and GPS. DENVER (KDVR) — A missing 2-month-old that was at the center of a statewide Amber Alert has been safely located. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that the 2-month-old baby has been located and is safe.Luis Novelo-Rojas, 35 was arrested in Denver, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office. He was wanted along with 39-year-old Ashley Ardolino in an Amber Alert after allegedly taking their 2-month-old daughter.The mother was also taken into custody on Thursday. DENVER (KDVR) - On Wednesday, workers at Urban Peak officially voted to form a union after reports of a lack of training and support for workplace trauma, according to a Service Employees International Union Local 105 press release. This is set to be the first-ever union at a Colorado homeless shelter. Workers at Urban Peak said they suffered physical and mental demands, especially involving death around the workplace. One reported incident occurred less than 6 months ago, when a 19-year-old froze to death outside of the shelter. DENVER (KDVR) — In less than a week, the popular doughnut shop Voodoo Doughnut is opening its fourth Colorado location. But this newest store will be missing the brand's signature pink color.On Aug. 1, Voodoo Doughnut will hold a grand opening in Boulder. Miami Gardens Police officers responded to a hit-and-run incident involving three pedestrians, Thursday afternoon. Authorities responded to the scene of a community resource center located on the 16400 block of Northwest 25th Avenue. According to officials, the driver traveled northbound as they exited the parking lot of the building. The driver then struck three pedestrians standing on the lot. Police said the driver fled the scene in their vehicles in an unknown direction. Two pedestrians remained on the scene, while one pedestrian was airlifted to a local hospital, said officials. BAYONNE, N.J. — Rocco, the adorable Jack Russell Terrier who had been missing since Monday, is finally back in the loving hands of his owner after a distressing two-day ordeal. Two men were arrested Wednesday in Marathon, Florida, on charges of human smuggling in violation of state law.According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Oreste Carvajal Gonzalez, 33, of Miami-Dade County, Florida, and Roberto Carlos Medina Moreno, 19, of Lakewood, Florida, both face 23 counts of smuggling. The arrests came after an incident on July 21, 2023, when a go-fast vessel carrying 23 Cuban migrants ran out of fuel in waters near Marathon.
