BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — People in Bastrop County are concerned about Elon Musk's Boring Company’s request to dump thousands of gallons of treated wastewater into the Colorado River. Tuesday night, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality held a meeting with neighbors about the future of their drinking water supply. Previous story: Neighbors upset with Boring Co.’s wastewater dumping request A representative from the Boring Co. was there to answer questions and explain the dumping process. "We will have less than 3% of the water being industrial water. It's from one process, a water jet process that uses a water jet to cut materials. And that is treated before it will head to a final treatment," Rajit Patel with Gapped Bass LLC said. "So there will be a primary treatment to where it is ready to head to the final treatment."In July, Gapped Bass LLC, an entity affiliated with the Boring Co., submitted a permit application with the TCEQ to dump 142,500 gallons of treated ...

One-pot Japanese curry chicken and rice recipe

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 23:25:30 GMT

By Kay Chun, The New York TimesUsually milder and sweeter than Indian curries, classic Japanese curry is a thick beef-and-vegetable stew served over rice. This recipe is not a traditional one, but rather an easy weeknight version, a one-pot meal featuring juicy chicken thighs, vegetables and rice. Instead of relying on store-bought or homemade instant curry roux, this dish relies on a few spices to mimic traditional Japanese curry flavors. Curry powder, ground nutmeg and Worcestershire sauce are combined and bloomed in butter to create the round and rich sauce. Onions, potatoes and carrots create the bulk of traditional Japanese curry, but sweet potatoes, cauliflower and peas would be great substitutions or additions. Serve the meal with any type of pickle you have on hand for a vinegary hit to contrast the rich curry.Yield: 4 servingsTotal time: 1 hourIngredients2 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (about 6 large thighs)2 tablespoons canola oilSalt and black pepper3 tablespoons...

Possessed by Metal at the Whisky

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 23:25:30 GMT

Possessed by Metal at the Whisky: Apparently it’s metal season in Los Angeles at the moment. In recent weeks, we’ve seen death metal titans Brujeria, Suffocation and Death to All (former members of Death), LA’s own Bitch, and Bay Area thrashers Vio-Lence. It’s enough to make your neck ache, and on Tuesday night the Bay was back in SoCal in the shape of Possessed. While they were a part of the Bay Area thrash scene of the ’80s, Possessed were on the more extreme end of the metal spectrum, crossing over into death metal territory. Some say Possessed was the first death metal band, though the lines are blurred so nothing is exact. The list of ex members is long, and in some cases distinguished. It includes celebrated Primus guitarist Larry LaLonde, as well as Fear Factory/Soulfly man Tony Campos. The current lineup includes Emilio Márquez (drums), Daniel Gonzalez and Claudeous Creame (guitars) and Robert Cardenas (bass). At least, we think it does. It seems ...
