MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A prosecutor Monday filed a felony firearm sentencing enhancement against a Muncie man charged with two counts of aggravated battery in connection with a shooting that left one person dead and 17 others wounded in the central Indiana city.The sentencing enhancement filed against John L. Vance Jr., 36, can add an additional five to 20 years to his total sentence if he is convicted, Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman said.Vance also is charged with criminal recklessness and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.Hoffman has acknowledged the charges against Vance don’t specifically refer to the July 30 shooting death of 30-year-old Joseph E. Bonner III of Muncie. BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Nearly all of the teenagers aboard an Idaho YMCA camp bus that rolled on a winding highway late last week have been released to their families, police said Monday.Troopers are continuing to investigate the cause of Friday’s crash, which sent all those on the bus to local hospitals, Idaho State Police said in a statement. Police said previously that 11 passengers were hospitalized, seven in critical condition, following the crash. The bus was carrying about 30 campers and staff back to Boise from the Treasure Valley YMCA’s camp at Horsethief Reservoir.Police said Monday that injury updates would not be provided. Troopers are working with the bus company to access pertinent information related to the crash, police said Monday. The bus driver was treated at a hospital and released, police said over the weekend.The YMCA had contracted with Caldwell Transportation for the bus service. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas judge dismissed a murder charge on Monday against a babysitter who served 15 years in prison after being convicted in the death of a toddler who choked on a wad of paper towels, which medical experts later concluded was the result of an accident and not intentional. Rosa Jimenez has been out of prison since 2021 after a judge ruled that a new trial was warranted at a minimum. Earlier this year, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruled that “false testimony” in her original 2005 trial entitled her to relief. CHICAGO (WGN) — A 9-year-old girl is dead after she was shot in the head in Chicago Saturday night by a man who was reportedly upset with the noise in the neighborhood. According to the Chicago Police Department, 43-year-old Michael Goodman has been charged with first-degree murder in the girl's death. Goodman allegedly approached a group in Chicago's Portage Park neighborhood around 9:40 p.m. and shot the girl in the head.The girl, identified as Sarabi Medina, had just bought ice cream from an ice cream truck and was riding her scooter home when the shooting happened, according to authorities. LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The northbound side of the Northway in Lake George reopened after a crash on Monday. The road was shut down between Exits 22 and 23 for about three hours after a crash involving a car carrier and a tractor trailer that caused multiple secondary crashes.
