A hit-and-run driver is being sought Tuesday after plowing into a home in Anaheim overnight. The incident took place around midnight in the 2600 block of Lincoln Avenue and was recorded on a nearby Ring camera. The video showed what was described by witnesses as an older model Honda CRV apparently leaving a bar on the opposite side of the street. At one point after leaving the parking lot, the vehicle went into reverse and was seen crashing through a fence, a bush, and eventually into the home. Resident Luis Delavega described what it was like inside the home.“It was a little traumatic at first. You know, hearing the loud speed of the car coming through and the next thing you know just the loud boom and everything shifting toward us as we’re laying down,” Delavega said. The driver then apparently struck a parked pickup truck while fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident but the driver remains on the loose. No suspect description has been released.

According to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, it's the most common form of cancer in the country, and yet a majority of adults don't get checked for it. It's a danger that hit close to home for Chris Meffen, after a train ride that might have saved his life. "It was a big blessing," Meffen said. While enjoying time with his family, Meffen said a woman approached him concerned about a spot on his face. Meffen said he had his spot for nearly five years before getting it tested. (Photo: Chris Meffen)"(She) asked me, 'Have you ever had that spot on your, on your face checked?' They said that, you know, I should have a dermatologist look at it," he said. That woman was Dr. Chelsey Straight, a dermatologist. "Instantly his wife was like, 'I've been telling you that you need to get this looked at,'" Dr. Straight said. Warriors’ salary cap cheat sheet: A look at Golden State’s financial situation heading into free agency

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 09:36:29 GMT

Mike Dunleavy Jr. has his work cut out for him.The Warriors’ offseason goal is to extend their championship window by bringing in a better supporting cast to surround Stephen Curry. But due to the Warriors’ crippling financial situation and new restrictions from the latest collective-bargaining agreement, it’ll be a challenge to do just that. The Warriors are well above the second tax apron, even before potentially re-signing Draymond Green, Golden State’s top free agent target. That means they have little options to bring in outside talent. The mid-level exemption, which they used on Donte DiVincenzo last offseason, won’t be at their disposal this time around. The Warriors got two players, Brandin Podziemski (No. 19) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (No. 57), in last Thursday’s draft. Beyond that, though, Golden State’s only ways to add players are through trades or with veteran minimum signings.Dunleavy orchestrated his first big trade as the Warrio...

How to protect your dog from foxtails

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 09:36:29 GMT

After a long, gloomy start to summer in Marin, the days are finally filled with glorious sunshine and mild temperatures, which for me is the best time to take my dog on long hikes. But along with all the awesome trails with beautiful views we enjoy here in Marin, I’ve also noticed a huge amount of the dreaded outdoor nemesis of dog and dog guardians: foxtails.Foxtail plants grow in fields, along the side of the road and even in your yard. The trouble starts when the foxtails dry out in spring and summer, changing from green to beige and becoming stiff and sharp. These pesky, bristly plants grow in abundance throughout California and are reported in most every state west of the Mississippi.Foxtails are named for their foxlike tails composed of many barbed awns. Once an awn penetrates the skin, it can only move forward. Dogs and cats are both susceptible to foxtails, but long-haired breeds of dogs are most commonly affected (cats’ grooming habits help to protect them). The danger of fo...

Opinion: California’s power grid leaves state vulnerable to failure

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 09:36:29 GMT

The Western power grid is going through a major transformation as states and utilities strive to boost reliability and fulfill their clean electricity goals. California legislation that would have been a first step toward enhancing grid collaboration in the West did not advance last month, but that should not stop us from more actively planning for a robust energy future at such a critical juncture. It was encouraging that the governor in May committed to begin working towards greater regional cooperation in sharing energy and upgrading the transmission network. California leadership is essential to achieve a better-connected power grid that would benefit tens of millions of people across the West.Without that leadership, California could be left behind. In a policy brief, the Union of Concerned Scientists laid out the benefits and risks of grid regionalization. Establishing a western grid operator could expand access to renewable energy, reduce overall costs and help to avoid the kin...
