O’FALLON, Mo. – On Thursday, the Francis Howell School Board voted to remove two elective courses from the district's high schools. Effective July 1, 2024, FHSD will no longer offer Black history or Black literature for students as an elective.Previous students of the classes said they learned valuable life lessons while in the course. “I learned so many different things in that class that I never knew about, and I think a lot of people would not know unless they took that course,” Lauren Chance said. “Not only did the course teach me a lot, it also built a community. I was in a class with people who had similar interests as me.”Nursing home takes in residents from Northview Village Nursing Home

ST. LOUIS – The abrupt closure of one of the largest nursing homes in the St. Louis area has left 170 residents, workers and their families with several questions. The emotions of some of the staff now taking care of the residents run high."Heartbreaking. That they got moved from their homes in the middle of the night and had to come to a place that their not familiar with, with no belongings at all," Kim Thomas said. The sign on the front doors of the Northview Village Nursing Home says, "Danger, condemned, keep away.” It has been six days since residents were removed from the nursing home and relocated to other St. Louis region nursing homes.Twenty-seven residents were relocated to the Superior Manor of Festus Nursing Home."They were, um, all just pretty much evacuated from the building. And we had one gentleman that came to us, and he came with two pairs of pants,” Michelle Plumb, administrator of Superior Manor of Festus, said. “All the other residents came with nothing." Joe Lombardi has worked for Sean Payton longer than almost anybody in football. The Broncos offensive coordinator is in his 13th season as an assistant in some capacity on a Payton coaching staff. He’s heard probably most or all of the stories. He’s seen the magic at work. He’s been a part of a Super Bowl team, some much leaner years, Payton’s year suspended by the NFL and much more. He’s undoubtedly been yelled at. A lot.Maybe it’s no surprise, then, that he laughed off the story this week that’s carried on after NFL Network cameras on Saturday night caught Payton reaming quarterback Russell Wilson on the sideline after a second-half sequence in which Denver stalled out on the goal line.“I think early on, (you learn) game days are like Vegas,” Lombardi said Thursday. “What goes on on game day stays on game day. It’s an emotional time and you can’t take things personal. We’ve all been on the end of that and we’ve all been Sean as well, yelling at somebody. I don’t think it’s near...Pomona man busted with stolen fire hydrants in back of pickup

The report warned that the risk of famine is “increasing each day,” blaming the hunger on insufficient aid entering Gaza. “It doesn’t get any worse,’’ said Arif Husain, chief economist for the U.N.’s World Food Program. “I have never seen something at the scale that is happening in Gaza. And at this speed.”Israel says it is in the final stages of clearing out Hamas militants from northern Gaza, but that months of fighting lie ahead in the south.
