The annual St. Patrick’s Parade in Toronto is taking over Bloor West this weekend, alongside the return of Toronto Comicon at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.Other events include Nowruz celebrations and a festival celebrating Arabic culture.A closure on a portion of the TTC’s Line 1 is scheduled this Saturday. WARSAW, Poland (AP) — The man who fatally stabbed Gdansk Mayor Paweł Adamowicz in 2019 was sentenced to life in prison by a Polish court on Thursday.Stefan Wilmont stabbed the 53-year-old Adamowicz on stage during a life charity event on Jan. 13, 2019. Adamowicz died from his wounds the next day despite a blood transfusion and other efforts by doctors to save him. The killing shocked Poles and plunged the nation into grief.Judge Aleksandra Kaczmarek said in her ruling that Wilmont had committed an “unprecedented murder” in Poland’s history.The sentencing came after a three-year long investigation and a year-long trial. KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) — The Women’s World Cup is getting 300% increase in prize money for this year’s tournament.The $150 million fund for the first 32-team tournament is a huge boost from the 24-team edition in 2019, and 10 times what it was in 2015.Some of that prize money must be dedicated to paying players, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said Thursday after being re-elected by acclimation through 2027.Infantino also again expressed his anger with broadcasters for offering too little for TV rights. CHICAGO — A rideshare driver was shot while picking up passengers in the city's Humboldt Park neighborhood.Police said the shooting happened just after 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of North Avers. A 32-year-old man working for a rideshare company was picking up passengers when he heard gunshots and felt pain.The man did not see anyone shooting and was shot in the left elbow, according to police. KIAMESHA LAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Department of Environmental Conservation Officers (ECOs) found a gun tossed by a fleeing suspected felon during a foot chase near Kiamesha Lake. ECOs say, along with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, they worked to find a handgun tossed by a suspect who fled on foot on Tuesday, February 28, near Kiamesha Lake. Due to conditions in the area, a K9 was sent in to try to find the missing handgun. The K9 couldn't find the gun, and ECOs used a metal detector to find it where they determined it was most likely thrown. (NEWS10) -- Due to the nor'easter that came through the Capital Region on Tuesday, the Town of Halfmoon Highway Department announced a town-wide cleanup to start on Wednesday, March 22, weather permitting. Residents are asked to bring their storm-related broken tree branches and brush to the curb, with larger ends facing the road. The Halfmoon Highway Department will start picking up tree branches and brush in the southern part of town, then work north.
